Chapter 1. First steps in plouik

1. User interface overview

In order to be used worldwide, plouik doesn't display any text. Every actions or settings are represented by a graphic icon.

2. Navigation buttons

There are two types of buttons in plouik: operation buttons which perform an operation when they are clicked and toggle buttons which does not perform any operation, but only toggles a state. Every toggle buttons will be labeled with [TOGGLE] in the next chapters of the manual.

U-turn when painting is not allowed anymore when this icon is displayed. It happens when the current brush is using the smudge ability. [TOGGLE] plouik handles two layers. The toggle icon allows users to select the current layer (see the note below).
[TOGGLE] Clicking on the icon activates the color picker tool and the current color will be changed into the chosen one from the canvas. [TOGGLE] The icon allows users to move the canvas (see the note below).
Zoom in on the picture (until x8). Zoom out on the picture (until /16).
The icon opens the plouik splash dialog. From this dialog, users can get this online manual and can update the plouik root folder too.
There are 5 different states for the layer toggle icon.
  • one layer.
  • 2 layers are displayed and the top layer is selected.
  • 2 layers are displayed and the bottom layer is selected.
  • 2 layers are defined but only the top layer is displayed.
  • 2 layers are defined but only the bottom layer is displayed.
There are also different states for the move toggle icon.
  • users can move the canvas one time then they will be able to draw again.
  • users can move the canvas until they click on the move icon again.
Tip: clicking 3 times in a row on the move icon centers the canvas (2 times for getting the dark move icon then once again without any displacement).

3. Tools dock

The icons in the tool dock may be displayed or not, depending on the configuration (see chapter interface configuration).
Open the preset dialog which allows saving or getting back user preset. Open the brush dialog for setting the stroke brush.
Open the color selector. Open the pattern dialog.
Open the operation and layers dialog. Undo the last draw.

4. Main menu

In a classic way with the Android operating system, the menu button displays a contextual menu
Open the new image dialog. Open the interface configuration dialog.
Open the file selector for loading an image. Open the file selector for saving the current picture.
Export the picture to Facebook, Flickr or other services. Quit plouik.
